Pawnadians may have launched in 2026, but the idea behind it began almost thirty years ago — with a five-year-old who desperately wanted a dog and, for a while, had to settle for the toy kind.

That little kid grew up and eventually got her dog. Then another. And somewhere along the way, dogs — and especially rescue dogs — became much more than a childhood dream.

In 2014, I began volunteering at an animal shelter every week. It was there that I started to understand dogs in a completely different way: not just how much they give us, but what they need from us in return. In 2016, I adopted my first rescue, Dusya. She changed my life far more than I could ever have changed hers. Asya joined our family in 2022, also through a shelter, and by then rescue had become an inseparable part of my life. Two foster dogs later, I’m still finding reasons to keep going.

Years of living with, caring for, and learning from rescue dogs taught me things that are difficult to understand from a product description alone. How a harness actually sits on a dog's body. Where pressure builds. What can restrict natural movement. And how much the right fit can matter when a dog is wearing something for hours at a time.

Pawnadians grew from that experience.

We create anatomical harnesses, collars, and leashes designed around the way dogs actually move — combining thoughtful construction and everyday comfort with a style that feels at home in the city. Everything is designed and made here in Toronto.

And because Pawnadians would not exist without the shelters and rescues that shaped this journey, giving back is part of our business from the beginning. A portion of every sale goes toward supporting the organizations helping dogs find their way to better lives.
